Compact MAX17577 and MAX17578 Inverting DC-DC Converters to Reduce Board Space and Energy Usage in IoT Applications

MAX17577 and MAX17578 Inverting DC-DC Converters

Maxim has introduced the MAX17577 and MAX17578, its first 60V inverting DC-DC converters with integrated level shifters. These new industry smallest highest-efficiency synchronous inverting DC-DC step-down converters save up to 72% of board space by reducing the component count by half.

With 35% less energy consumption both MAX17577 and MAX17578 reduce size, heat, and cost while simplifying the design of negative output voltage rails needed for analog signals within intelligent IoT devices found in factory automation, building automation, and communications systems. Along with low heat dissipation, these devices also improve system reliability and provide developers with up to six percentage points more efficiency.

The integrated level shifting circuit of the MAX17577 and MAX17578 reduces component cost and count by as much as 50% while reducing the component area to 60 mm2, a 72% advantage in board space over competitive solutions. Protected against input voltage transients, the device has a wide input voltage range from 4.5V to 60V, this helps in increasing the system robustness in harsh environments.

Both MAX17577 and MAX17578 are available at a price point of $1.65 (1000-up, FOB USA) on Maxim's official website and from authorized distributors.
