CSignum, a UK-based wireless technology company focused on underwater and underground IoT communications has secured £6 million in Series A funding. Founded in 2020, CSignum addresses the growing need for real-time data transmission in challenging environments such as water, soil and rock. Its patented electromagnetic field signaling (EMFS) technology which is branded as EM-2 enables reliable wireless data transfer through surfaces where traditional technologies fall short.
The EM-2 systems are currently used in key applications like water quality and environmental monitoring, under-ship systems and securing underwater infrastructure including offshore wind farms and oil platforms. The company also offers CSignum Cloud, a data analytics platform supporting its wireless solutions. This platform is already being used in river water quality monitoring projects. CSignum is working with clients across the UK, EU and US, especially as environmental regulations push for real-time monitoring under initiatives like AMP8.
The £6 million funding round was led by Archangels, Par Equity and Scottish Enterprise with support from British Business Investment (BBI), Raptor Group, Deep Future, SeaAhead’s Blue Angel Network and several US-based investors. The investment will help CSignum expand its engineering team, advance product development and strengthen its market presence. CEO Jonathan Reeves said that the funding reflects growing recognition of the need for underwater IoT solutions. Investors from Archangels and Par Equity acknowledged the unique capability of CSignum’s technology to meet industry needs for reliable, real-time underwater communication.
