IoT and edge AI computing company AAEON Technology Inc. has partnered with smart transportation solutions provider FETC International to deploy an AI automatic license plate recognition system in over 2400 parking lots in Taiwan and to carry out pilot projects in Thailand, Malaysia and India. FETCi with more than 20 years of highway operations experience, adopted AI to improve accuracy and efficiency in tolling, parking management and law enforcement systems. As part of its expansion strategy, FETCi will utilize AAEON’s embedded computing platforms to support broader smart transportation solutions.
The AI ALPR application showcased at NVIDIA GTC in March operates on AAEON’s MAXER 2100 inference server powered by 13th Generation Intel Core processors and an integrated NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada GPU. This server-grade platform enables simultaneous execution of multiple AI models for license plate recognition and regional variation handling. Along with the server, the system uses AAEON’s BOXER 8621AI module with NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano for real time plate detection, optical character recognition and image enhancement to maintain high recognition accuracy across different license plate styles.
The AI ALPR solution is live in more than 2400 parking facilities in Taiwan and supports real time electronic toll collection on Highway No. 9 in Bangkok. Headquartered in New Taipei, FETCi plans to further expand its operational footprint in India, Malaysia and across Asia using AAEON’s edge AI platforms. Richard Wu, Vice President of FETCi noted that the collaboration enhances the performance of global license plate recognition systems and opens new opportunities in smart parking and highway tolling markets.
