New Ultra-Wideband (UWB) ICs for Highly Precise Positioning and Fine Ranging in Smart Lock and Real-Time Location Tracking Applications

NXP's Trimension SR040 and Trimension SR150 Ultra-wideband ICs

NXP Semiconductors has expanded its portfolio of ultra-wideband (UWB) ICs with the Trimension SR040 and Trimension SR150 ICs that are optimized for enabling new IoT use cases such as smart lock and real-time location system (RTLS) tags.

The Trimension SR150 has been designed to satisfy the specific needs of IoT devices by adding angle-of-arrival (AoA) technology for an additional level of precision. The device is suitable for enabling UWB in all kinds of large infrastructure such as access control installations, indoor localization setups, and payment schemes, as well as consumer electronics. Several SR150 IC devices can be placed in a room as UWB anchors to help localize people and objects as they move.

The Trimension SR040 has been optimized for low-power operation in battery-operated IoT devices including UWB trackers and tags, and it can be integrated with Bluetooth low energy or other connectivity controllers in one device.

The new UWB ICs can lock and unlock doors in the owner’s actual presence, allow car sharing with a simple touch of the screen, or accessed hands-free. The smart home automation systems assisted by the UWB ICs can follow their owners intuitively and efficiently from one room to another and helps people to track the misplaced items in an instant.

The Trimension OL23DO is an open and fully customer programmable UWB controller for IoT applications that complements the range of dedicated IoT solutions.
