Arm Cortex- M33 Processor-Based Wireless SoC for Advance Wearable and Other Complex IoT Applications

Arm Cortex- M33 Processor-Based Wireless SoC

Nordic Semiconductor has introduced the nRF5340TM high-end multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC) that provides flexible, dual-processor hardware architecture with advanced security features. The new device combines a high-performance application processor with a fully programmable, ultra-low-power network processor and the advanced root-of-trust and trusted execution security features into a low power multiprotocol SoC.

With the support of major RF protocols like the Bluetooth 5.2/Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE), Bluetooth mesh, Thread, and Zigbee, the nRF5340 can be used in professional lighting, industrial automation, advanced wearables, and other complex IoT applications. The SoC meets the requirements of LE Audio, hence enabling audio streaming from a single source to multiple recipients via Bluetooth Low Energy. The I2S and PDM audio interfaces can be used to transfer audio data to other parts of the system, this employs nRF5340’s low-jitter audio PLL clock source.

The Arm CryptoCell-312, Arm TrustZone Technology, and Secure Key Storage of the nRF5340 provide excellent security. The security attributes of the Flash memory, RAM, and peripherals are easily configured through software available in the companion ‘nRF Connect SDK’. The nRF5340 is built around the dual-arm Cortex-M33 processors that can run up to 128 MHz (514 CoreMark) with dedicated 1 MB Flash and 512 KB RAM, and a fully programmable, ultra low power network processor running at 64 MHz (244 CoreMark) with dedicated 256 KB Flash and 64 KB RAM.

Operating at the supply voltage range of 1.7 to 5.5V, the nRF5340 incorporates a power-optimized multiprotocol 2.4GHz radio with a TX current of 3.4mA (0 dBm TX power, 3 V, DC/DC) and RX current of 2.7 mA (3 V, DC/DC). With a sleep current as low as 0.9µA, the nRF5340 can operate at temperatures up to 105°C.

The nRF5340 SoC and the nRF5340 DK is available through Nordic’s distribution network.
