IIITDM Kancheepuram and ERNET India signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a joint research laboratory for an Internet of Things functionality validation sandbox. The MoU was signed on Tuesday by IIITDM Director M.V. Kartikeyan and ERNET India Director General Sanjeev Banzal. A Paventhan, Director (R&D) of ERNET Chennai also attended the event alongside ERNET scientists and senior IIITDM faculty. The partnership aims to foster collaborative research across technical domains and emerging technologies.
The new research laboratory will offer modern facilities and access to advanced infrastructure. This collaboration creates opportunities for joint funding proposals, academic publications and stronger industry-academia linkages. The initiative is expected to drive innovation in Internet of Things applications while enhancing research capabilities in technical fields. Both institutions are committed to building a platform that supports practical experimentation and real-world solutions.
As part of the agreement, ERNET India distributed internship offer letters to six IIITDM students. Internship opportunities will also be extended to rural students receiving hands-on training in the laboratory. This initiative strongly reinforces commitment of both organizations to nurture talent and develop technical expertise in emerging technologies. The collaboration is expected to contribute to academic growth and industry-relevant research, benefiting students, researchers and the technology community.
