SECO Launches Clea OS, an Advanced Embedded Linux Framework for Secure IoT Device Development

Seco Clea IoT Software

SECO has introduced Clea OS, a new embedded Linux operating system designed to improve the development and operation of IoT (Internet of Things) devices. Clea OS makes it easier for developers and businesses to build and manage smart devices by offering features like secure updates, remote access, and device monitoring.

Clea OS comes in two versions to suit different needs. The minimal version provides just the basic tools for secure updates and running Docker applications on devices, while the full version includes everything needed to build complex systems, such as human-machine interface (HMI) applications. Regular updates and long-term support (LTS) help reduce maintenance and improve the development process with tools for continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD). It works with both x86 and Arm® processors and supports most of SECO’s edge products, making it a reliable and flexible choice for creating IoT infrastructure.

Security is a key focus of Clea OS. It includes the latest patches to keep the system safe and uses an A/B partitioning layout to ensure updates are applied reliably. This reduces downtime and helps keep the system running smoothly. Clea OS also connects directly to Clea’s IoT platform, allowing developers to manage devices remotely, update software over-the-air (OTA), and monitor device performance securely.

As Clea OS is built on open-source software, it can be easily customized and ported to different hardware, including popular platforms like the Raspberry Pi 4. Future updates will include enhanced security features like secure boot, vulnerability assessments, and software bill of materials (SBOM) generation, further improving system protection.
