Hyundai Motor Group Expands Robotics Collaboration with Boston Dynamics

Hyundai Motor Group and Boston Dynamics Partnership

Boston Dynamics and Hyundai Motor Group have deepened their collaboration to scale robotics manufacturing and expand innovation efforts. Hyundai Motor Group plans to purchase around ten thousand robots over the next few years, supporting growth of Boston Dynamics and contributing to the development of a robotics ecosystem in the United States.

This move aligns with Hyundai Motor Group’s recent announcement of a $21 billion investment in the U.S. including $6 billion dedicated to innovation and strategic partnerships. The Group currently uses Spot robot of Boston Dynamics for industrial inspection and predictive maintenance and plans to deploy Atlas the electric humanoid robot, across its manufacturing facilities in the future. During a town hall meet at Boston Dynamics, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, Vice Chair Jaehoon Chang and other senior leaders outlined the Group’s commitment to Boston Dynamics and its broader AI and robotics strategy. Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter confirmed Hyundai will become their largest customer with plans to align robot production with Hyundai’s needs across manufacturing and mobility sectors.

At the opening of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, Boston Dynamics demonstrated Spot’s capabilities, which will be used for quality inspections at the facility. Atlas will also be deployed at HMGMA in the future. Boston Dynamics continues its efforts to strengthen partnerships including those with NVIDIA, Google DeepMind, the Toyota Research Institute and the Robotics and AI Institute to further advance robotic technologies.
