Nordic Semiconductor Launches nRF9151: Compact, Low-Power SiP for Advanced Cellular IoT and Industrial Applications

nRF9151

This tiny powerhouse, measuring just 12×11mm, is perfect for projects that require minimal space and energy consumption. Whether used as a dedicated modem or as an application microcontroller, the nRF9151 brings advanced features like LTE-M/NB-IoT and DECT NR+ support.

Nordic Semiconductor has officially launched the nRF9151, a compact and low-power system-in-package (SiP) designed for cellular IoT applications. With satellite connectivity promised in future updates, this SiP is set to elevate the capabilities of IoT applications in smart metering, asset tracking, and Industrial IoT.

What makes the nRF9151 stand out? For starters, it's about 20% smaller than its predecessor, the nRF9161, yet offers even more power efficiency. It comes equipped with a single Arm Cortex-M33 core clocked at 64MHz, 256kB of SRAM, and 1MB of flash memory. The chip also integrates Arm’s TrustZone and CryptoCell technologies, ensuring secure data processing. Its Power Class 5 20dBm feature, combined with full 3GPP Release 14 LTE-M/NB-IoT and 1.9GHz DECT NR+ support, makes it ideal for long-range communication projects, with the promise of future satellite connectivity to extend its capabilities even further.

Nordic Semiconductor hasn't just released the nRF9151; they've also introduced a development kit. This kit includes all the necessary hardware, like GPIO headers in an Arduino UNO-compatible format, an embedded SEGGER J-Link for programming and debugging, and even a SIM card pre-loaded with data for immediate use. Whether you're building the next generation of smart meters or tracking systems, the nRF9151 and its development kit offer a streamlined, secure, and future-proof solution for your IoT projects.
